An evaluation is performed when there is a suspected delay or disorder. The speech-language pathologist will utilize a variety of assessment tools to determine strengths and weaknesses of the child's overall communication. This will include reviewing past medical records, parent interview, and observations.
After an evaluation has been completed, the child's indvidual needs will determine the intensity and frequency of speech-language treatment.

Receptive language is the ability to understand spoken communication. Expressive language is the ability to form words and sentences to communicate verbally.
Articulation is the process by which sounds are formed into syllables and words to produce intelligible expressive communication. Phonological processing is the ability to organize the pattern of sounds to produce intelligible expressive communication.
Difficulty tolerating solids and liquids safely for proper nutritional intake.
Characterized by repetition of sounds, syllables, or words. Examples include : prolongation of sounds; and interruptions in speech.
Social pragmatic language disorders applies when a child has difficulty using language in social situations such as sharing objects during social play, using appropriate greetings, making/maintaining social engagements with peers. These characteristics may also be present in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
